Alaco is proud once again to have sponsored the annual Logan Symposium on Investigative Reporting, held in Berkeley, California. This is the second year that Alaco has been a sponsor and the fourth that representatives of the company have been invited to attend.
Since 2007, the U.C. Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism’s Investigative Reporting Program has hosted a “by invitation only” symposium each spring in honor of the Reva and David Logan Foundation, which endowed the program. The only symposium of its kind in the country, it routinely brings together a veritable “who’s who” of top journalists, law enforcement and government officials to address the critical issues confronting this specialized field. The symposium also unites media executives involved in both non-profit and commercial outlets, as well as media attorneys, academics, major foundations, and philanthropists who support journalism in the public interest.
The theme this year was Journalism in the Age of Trump. Among a diverse programme of panels and events, former CIA Director John Brennan (2013 to 2017) addressed issues such as: Russian interference in the US election and in Europe; cyber threats; and the assertion that the current US administration is undermining its own security apparatus. The sight of a room of journalists applauding a former intelligence director, one of the key architects of the US drone programme and a proponent of extraordinary rendition, was a strong indication of the changing priorities and new alliances of the media since 2016.
The full schedule of the two-day programme can be found here.
