Alaco is seeking experienced case managers at the associate or senior associate level to join its Transactions team. The role is suitable for an investigator or professional from a related field with experience managing investigative assignments and communicating the results.
Alaco’s Transactions Practice supports a varied range of clients ahead of new business relationships, deals or entry into new markets; and also in their periodic review of existing relationships. Subjects might include an acquisition target for a private equity firm, a high net worth client for a private bank, a foreign distributor for a corporation, or an infrastructure project for a development finance institution. Work spans all industry sectors and all jurisdictions globally. The Transactions Practice has been ranked consistently in the top tier, Band 1, for its investigative due diligence work by Chambers & Partners, the industry benchmark.
As an associate or senior associate at Alaco, you will be at the heart of project delivery. Depending on your level of experience, you will work under the guidance of more senior staff or independently on all aspects of casework, from setting budgets and writing proposals at the outset, to delivery of the final product. You will supervise the activities of analysts working on your projects, providing guidance and assistance as necessary, and you may also conduct some research directly. You will shape strategy for a project, curating an effective mix of external human sources, determining the key elements of research emphasis, and taking responsibility for presenting the findings, both in the written report and orally when required.
Outside of case work, you will support marketing and business development through content generation, attendance at industry events, and ad-hoc research projects. Senior associates will also be expected to build and maintain strong relationships with Alaco’s existing clients, and contribute to expanding the company’s source network.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Review client briefs and create bespoke research plans in response, with support from senior colleagues.
• Identify and analyse information from public records and human sources in jurisdictions worldwide, both independently and in conjunction with junior analysts.

• Supervise the work of junior research analysts on individual assignments.
• Curate, brief and liaise with external human sources.
• Draft project proposals and budgets.
• Assist in business development, e.g. by attending events and conferences, creating media and social media content.
Skills and Experience
• A minimum of 4 years’ experience in business intelligence or a complementary field such as journalism, government or law.
• In-depth regional or sectoral knowledge of the commercial, legal and regulatory environment surrounding businesses.
• Track record of creative and analytical approach to research. Experience working with information from human sources preferred.
• Excellent English-language communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to explain complex events and concepts in clear and concise terms.
• Strong planning and prioritisation skills.
• Undergraduate degree.
• Second language skills are advantageous; we are particularly interested in hearing from German speakers currently.
