on assignment, Singapore

04.11.2024 | Associate, Disputes

Alaco is seeking associates to join its Disputes Practice. The role is suitable for an investigator or professional from a related field with experience managing complex contentious assignments spanning judgement enforcement, asset recovery and litigation support.

The Disputes Practice works with law firms, ultimate clients and other advisors to provide admissible evidence, actionable intelligence and strategic advice on contentious and asset recovery matters.  We regularly get engaged in some of the most sizeable and sensitive disputes worldwide with direct access to key decision makers.  Our findings have been submitted to all major arbitral and litigation centres worldwide.

As an associate at Alaco, you will be at the heart of project delivery, with day-to-day responsibility for the management of casework.  You will shape strategy for a project, curating an effective mix of external human sources, determining the key elements of research emphasis, and taking responsibility for presenting the findings, both in the written report and orally when required.  You will supervise the activities of analysts working on your projects, providing guidance and assistance as necessary, and you may also conduct some research directly.  You will draft project proposals and set budgets under the guidance of more senior staff.  Outside of case work, you will support marketing and business development through content generation, attendance at industry events, and ad-hoc research projects.

Specific Responsibilities

• Review client briefs and create bespoke research plans in response, with support from senior colleagues.
• Identify and analyse information from public records and human sources in jurisdictions worldwide, both independently and in conjunction with junior analysts.
• Prepare comprehensive and nuanced written reports on findings, and present these orally to clients as required.
• Supervise the work of junior research analysts on individual assignments.
• Curate, brief and liaise with external human sources.
• Draft project proposals and budgets.
• Assist in business development, e.g. by attending events and conferences, creating media and social media content.

Qualifications and Skills

• 4-5 years of experience in business intelligence or a complementary field such as law, journalism, or government.
• Prior experience in disputes and related projects (asset tracing in particular) is highly desirable and will be prioritised over experience undertaking integrity-led mandates.
• Track record of creative and analytical approach to research.  Experience working with information from human sources preferred.
• Comfortable interacting with clients and their advisors.
• Excellent English-language communication skills, both written and oral.  Ability to explain complex events and concepts in clear and concise terms.
• Strong planning and prioritisation skills.
• Knowledge of business, legal and regulatory concepts.
• Undergraduate degree.
